ALONE Series Premiere Thurs June 18 at 10/9c
If you thought the castaways on Survivor had it rough, then prepare to buckle up for Alone, an upcoming History channel event that will dump a group of survivalist in the middle of the wilderness and track their progress for the entire summer as each fends for him- or herself completely alone.
This 10-episode series is billed as the boldest, longest survival experiment in TV history, and will place 10 "hardcore survivalists" all alone in the Vancouver Island wilderness. Unlike Survivor, Alone lives up to its title as the contestants won't be split into teams, but will be separated from each other, with no camera crew or producers to lean on if something goes awry. Waiting at the end of the line for the person who can last the longest in the wilderness is a $500,000 cash prize.
During the series, the survivalists will hunt, build shelters and fend off predators, while facing "extreme isolation and psychological distress as they plunge into the unknown" and document their experiences themselves.
“Alone is an entirely new format for History, set against Vancouver Island’s impressive wilderness landscape,” said Christine Shipton, Senior Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, Shaw Media, in the announcement. “Viewers have the unique opportunity to follow the journeys of these survivalists as they are left on their own and endure unpredictable elements and social isolation to ultimately be the last one standing.”
Is anyone interested in this new show? Too me, it will be interesting to see how a show is edited since there are no film crews - the contestants film themselves. I did not find any spoiler information on the show. If anyone is interested, and the powers to be are okay ( Phoenix? FLF? ). I could start a new thread in the non-member speculation to try and pick the winner using our vast editing prowess ( cough ). I am certain I will pick the winner by episode 5 ( double cough ) - unless of course it sucks so bad that it becomes unwatchable . Could be an interesting way to pass the summer----and it is set in CANADA! I am US, but I know of some the posters are Canadian, eh. I suppose we could be kicked over the "other shows that suck" forum, but that would suck....or maybe no one else is interested; in which case, I am one of the alone with a mouse in lieu of a backpack....
With Phoenix's blessing, anyone wishing to join in the discussion of this new show is welcome. For fun, I would like to see if we can use some of our expertise in Edgic to figure if the show will follow a survivor-like pattern by highlighting the winner. It is a game show reality series, so we will see. No camera crews, so the producers will be working with raw footage from the players.
